k west hotel and spa

Summer is just around the corner, and this time of year everybody is looking to become a hotter, healthier, happier version of themselves. After all,  this is the year we will eat clean, train dirty and treat our bodies as the temples they are! Sarah and I decided to get a head start,  indulging in a day of pampering at the inner city K West Hotel & Spa.

Awarded 'Best Spa in London 2015' by the Good Spa Guide, the K West Hotel and Spa is situated just a stones throw from Shephard's Bush underground station, and Westfield shopping center. Walking into the reception of the hotel I knew we were going to have a good day, guests were chatting and laughing in the bright and luxurious modern reception, a promising sign, as we delved into the underground sanctuary.

We had booked a spa day, including full use of the spa facilities, a back massage and a 'dry flotation experience', queue bemusement! That experience turned out to be lying in a soft waterbed cocoon that you are enveloped in for 30 minutes. I wish I could tell you more, but I fell asleep during mine... definitely one for relaxing, mind and body. One of the things that the K Spa is renowned for is the somewhat innovative treatments that are on offer, including London's first Snow Paradise! The idea being that you alternate between the -1.5°c chilled cabin, Hydrotherapy Pool, Aromatic Herbal Steam Room, Sauna and Sanarium, back and forth, steam and ice, as part of the spa's hot-cold therapy regime. Contrast hydrotherapy is revolved around using extreme temperatures to stimulate the body circulation, and I've heard promotes various health benefits including an improved immune system and rejuvenated skin.

Our treatments were done simultaneously, in the same room, which was nice because we weren't waiting around for one another. We then booked a light lunch served in the Studio Kitchen, which we enjoyed in our spa robes. Is there anything more decadent than brunching in a plush white robe and slippers? After lunch we headed back down to enjoy the spa facilities for the rest of the day... and didn't submerge until about 6 hours later.
